Understanding Child Rates
Child rates apply to all guests aged 0–17 years. As a host, you can set up multiple age brackets within this range to ensure the correct rate is applied based on each child’s age.
Age Brackets
You can create as many child age brackets as you like. Common examples include:
-
0–6 years
-
7–12 years
-
13–17 years
These brackets help the system calculate the correct rate for each child during booking.

1. Fixed Child Rates
With fixed child rates, you can choose to:
-
Charge a set amount per child, or
-
Charge a percentage of the adult rate
The child rate is added to the total adult rate.
Examples:
Example 1 — One child charged a fixed rate
-
Booking: 2 adults + 1 child (6 years old)
-
2-person adult rate: R1000
-
Child (6 years old) fixed rate: R250
-
Total: R1250
Example 2 — Two children, one at 100% adult rate
-
Booking: 2 adults + 2 children (6 and 15 years old)
-
15-year-old charged 100% of the adult rate
-
Total adult count: 3
-
3-person adult rate: R1500
-
Child (6 years old) fixed rate: R250
-
Total: R1750
2. Percentage-Based Child Rates
Instead of a fixed amount, you can set a child rate as a percentage of the adult rate (for example, 50%).
How it works:
-
The system calculates the total for all guests at the full adult rate.
-
It subtracts the adult portion.
-
The remaining amount is adjusted according to the chosen child percentage.
Example — One child charged 50% of the adult rate
-
Booking: 2 adults + 1 child (11 years old)
-
3-person adult rate: R1500
-
Subtract 2-person adult rate: R1500 – R1000 = R500
-
50% of R500 = R250
Total price:
-
Adults (2-person rate): R1000
-
Child (50% rate): R250
-
Total: R1250
By setting up child rates clearly, you make it easier for guests to understand pricing and for you to manage bookings accurately. Review your age brackets and rate types regularly to ensure everything stays up to date and your guests have a smooth booking experience.
